그리스 구제금융 협상에 청신호가 켜졌다.
최대 채권국인 독일의 앙겔라 메르켈 총리는 7일 브뤼셀에서 열린 유로존(유로화 사용 19개국) 정상회담을 마친 후 회견에서 독일 의회에 그리스에 대한 장기지원 프로그램 협상에 대한 승인을 요청할 수 있도록 이번 주 그리스 정부로부터 충분한 개혁 제안을 받기를 원한다고 밝혔다.

메르켈 총리는 오는 9일까지 그리스 정부로부터 개혁안과 구제금융 요청을 제안 받으면 12일 유럽연합(EU) 28개국 정상들이 이 제안을 토대로 그리스에 대한 지원 방안을 논의할 것이라고 전했다.

Greece fails to offer a new bailout plan at emergency meeting in Brussels

The unexpected twist further complicated the last-ditch effort by Greece to renew the flow of European funds and keep the country from slipping deeper into financial chaos and possibly being pitched out of the common currency.

Greece's government had been widely expected to present a new plan to finance ministers at the Brussels summit, held just days after a Sunday referendum in which Greek voters emphatically rejected Europe's latest bailout proposal. One of the key elements in that plan was deeper cuts to state pensions.

"It's not a matter of weeks any more," said German Chancellor Angela Merkel. "It's a matter of days."

But instead of a written dossier, Greece's new finance minister, Euclid Tsakalotos, spoke about his country's intentions to rein in costs and reform its creaky fiscal underpinnings.

Jeroen Dijsselbloem, president of euro zone finance ministers, said it was "too early to say" whether the Greek plans were substantive enough to reopen formal talks.

"In the eyes of the euro group, the problems in Greece do really need credible reforms," he said. "And therefore we need to hear from the Greek government whether they have such reforms in mind."

Now, the euro group is waiting for Greece's prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, who is expected to deliver details on the Greek plan on Wednesday when finance ministers will convene again via conference call.

Mr Tsipras is also due to address the European Parliament on Wednesday.
