I used to look up at the night sky and wonder, and I used to dream the dreams of a boy. I used to imagine that I was a super hero who could save the world. In an intro to one of our early albums, there’s a line that says, ‘My heart stopped when I was maybe nine or ten.’ Looking back, I think that’s when I began to worry about what other people thought of me, and started seeing myself through their eyes. I stopped looking up at the night skies, the stars. I stopped daydreaming. Instead, I just tried to jam myself into the molds that other people made. Soon, I began to shut out my own voice, and started to listen to the voices of others. No one called out my name, and neither did I. My heart stopped, and my eyes closed shut. So, like this, I, we, all lost our names. We became like ghosts. But I had one sensory, and that was music. There was a small voice inside of me that said, ‘Wake up, man, and listen to yourself.’ But it took me a long time to hear music calling my real name. Even after making the decision to join BTS, there were a lot of hurdles. Some people may not believe, but most people thought we were hopeless. Sometimes I just wanted to quit. But I think I was very lucky that I didn’t give it all up. And I’m sure that I, and we, will keep stumbling and falling like this. BTS has become artists performing in those huge stadiums and selling millions of albums right now, but I am still an ordinary 24-year-old guy. If there’s anything that I achieved, it was only possible that I have my other BTS members right by my side, and because of the love and support that our ARMY fans all over the world make for us. And maybe I made a mistake yesterday, but yesterday’s me is still me. Today, I am who I am with all of my faults and my mistakes. Tomorrow, I might be a tiny bit wiser, and that’ll be me too. These faults and mistakes are what I am, making up the brightest stars in the constellation of my life. I have come to love myself for who I am, for who I was, and for who I hope to become. I’d like to say one last thing: After releasing our Love Yourself albums and launching the ‘Love Myself’ campaign, we started to hear remarkable stories from our fans all over the world. On Monday (September 24), South Korean music group BTS made history and joined a list of influential speakers invited to talk at the launch of “Youth 2030: The UN Youth Strategy” and “Generation Unlimited Partnership.”

All seven members of the K-pop group took the floor as UNICEF’s goodwill ambassadors, but it was group leader RM, born Kim Namjoon, who addressed the floor.

"It is an incredible honor to be invited to an occasion of such significance for today’s young generation," he began. "Last November, BTS launched the ‘Love Myself’ campaign with UNICEF, built in our belief that true love first begins with loving [yourself]...partnering with UNICEF’s end violence program, to protect young children all over the world from violence."

The artist then thanked the group's global fans, the ARMYs, for their tremendous involvement: "And our fans have become a large part of this campaign with their action and with their enthusiasm. We truly have the best fans in the world," RM gushed.

He also went on to speak with fierce conviction about his own journey with self-acceptance. The performer urged young people to love themselves, faults and all, and to speak their true names.

I’d like to begin by talking about myself. I was born in Ilsan, a city near Seoul, South Korea. It is a really beautiful place with a lake, hills, and even an annual flower festival. I spent a very happy childhood there, and I was just an ordinary boy. I used to look up at the night sky and wonder, and I used to dream the dreams of a boy. I used to imagine that I was a super hero who could save the world. 자기로부터의 혁명을 이야기한 #함석헌 선생.

강력한 학생운동의 역사를 가진 대한민국.

정의와 도덕으로 무장했던 학생운동의 주역들. 그 학생들 졸업 후 학생운동가들의 숫자만큼 지금 정의와 도덕의 양이 증가했습니까?

정의와 도덕의 질이 높아졌습니까?

혁명하는 개별자들이 혁명되지 않은 채 혁명을 하고 있습니다.

혁명 이념을 수행만 했지 혁명가가 혁명되지 않은 채 혁명을 하고 있습니다.

함석헌 선생 ’자기로 부터의 혁명을 제시 함‘

자발성, 독립성, 주체성, 주체력

이런 것들 개인적인 범위 안에 제한되는 것이 아닙니다.

그 사회으 진정한 변혁과 진정한 발전, 진정한 품격에 직접적으로 기원이 되다는 것은

자쾌(自快) 스스로 즐기는 것입니다. = 자유입니다.

자유란

전체에 대항하는 나의 활동이 아니라

나의 자발적 생명력, 나의 내적인 활동성

그걸 원천으로 내 삶을 끌고 가겠다는 겁니다.

자유의 개념만이 ’자기가 자신의 주인이다.‘는 것 확인 시켜줍니다.

이 세계는 단1초도 정지하지 않습니다.

나는 이념에 고정되어 있지 않고 사건의 담당자가 되겠다고 다짐해야 합니다.

운동의 경계적 상황에 그대로 맡겨 두는 사람은

자발적 생명력을 소유하려는 사람입니다.

경계에 서서 욕망의 활동성에 자기를 맡길 때 그 사람은 비로소 강해질 수 있습니다.

한쪽에 치우치지 않고 경계에 있는 사람은 유연성을 가지게 됩니다.

이것과 비교하여 정지한 이념을 자기의 가치 기준으로 삼은 사람의 특징을 보면,

1. 항상 왜소한 존재로 자기를 인식합니다.

2. 이념을 잘 지키느냐로 자신의 지위와 가치를 결정합니다.

살아있다는 것은 활동하는 것이며 운동하고 경계에 서 있는, 유연성 있는 자기 주인이 된다는 것입니다.

내가 책을 읽는 다는 것은 내가 책을 쓰기 위함이며 나를 표현하기 위함입니다.

내가 공부하는 것은 내가 알고 있는 것을 다른 이에게 가르치기 위해서입니다.

최진석 교수 “60세 넘어서 공부는 그만하십시오. 배우는 것 그만 두세요. 이제는 자신을 표현하려고 하십시오.”라고 다른 이에게 권면했습니다.

배우는 것은 표현하기 위한 수단으로만 존재해야 합니다.

자기 삶 전체에서

자기 활동은 읽기와 쓰기 사이에 있도록 하고

배우기와 표현하기 사이에 있게 하며

듣기와 말하기 사이에 있어야 인간은 순수하지 않게 되며 얌전하지 않고

인간은 거칠어지고 짐승의 눈빛 야성을 회복하게 됩니다.

자신의 삶 전체를 다른 사람의 것 배우는데 바치고

다른 사람의 것 정리하는 데 바치고

다른 사람의 말 듣는데 바친다면

도대체 자기는 어디에 있다는 겁니까?

삶의 궁극적인 동력은 나를 표현하는 것에 있어야 합니다.

나를 침해하는 그 어떤 것에도 도전해야 합니다.

나의 주체성, 나의 존재성, 나의 존엄성을 침해하는 그 어떤 것에 저항할 수 있어야 합니다.

■ 죽기 전에 해서는 안 될 두가지는

1. 충고하지 않기

2. 남의 충고를 듣지 않기

입니다.

“나를 나로 둬보고 그대로 한번 살아보겠다.” 다짐해 보십시오.

최진석 교수께서는 친구의 충고를 듣고 말했습니다.

“내가 알아서 하면 안돼, 내가 알아서 할게”

친구가 “나를 친구로 보는지?” 질문할 때

속으로

‘나는 내 앞의 친구를 돌보는 것보다 나를 돌보는 게 더 바빠요~’라고

“우리 모두는 충고를 좀 그만 합시다!!”

경계에 서서 내가 내 주인으로 살 때 느끼는 자족감을 누려 봅시다!!

■ 죽기 전에 버려서는 안될 두가지는

1. 자기 자신에 대한 무한 신뢰

2. 자기 자신에 대한 무한 사랑

이 두가지는 죽을 때 까지 지켜나가야 합니다!!!

이제 여러분은 ‘자신이 얼마나 아름다운 존재인지?, 가치있고 강한 존재인지?, 자유로운 존재인지?를 확인할 수 있습니다.
